What's Ahead For Travel In 2022...

Travel is back and people are thrilled to finally be going places. As we are about to finish off the last quarter of 2021, what’s ahead for the travel industry in 2022?
Frank Marini, President and CEO of Amtrak Vacations and Railbookers, has insights on what he believes will be trending for travel next year:
- TRAVEL MINDSET: People are going BIG to make up for lost travel time. Luxury rail trips like the Venice-Simplon Orient Express, Golden Eagle or Glacier Express, Alaska By Rail, and Multi-National Park trips (not just one) are on the agenda.
- DESTINATIONS: National parks in the US are still huge for travelers in the US. Luxury rail trips in Switzerland and Italy are also incredibly popular for 2022.
- TIMING: Travelers are making up for lost time and lost experiences in 2022, so booking early is going to be key to locking in the best price and availability as prices will continue to rise with higher demand and limited capacity. A lot of people wanted to travel to Glacier National Park in 2021 and they simply were not able to because of such high demand. As a result, they booked already for 2022 so capacity is again going to be limited for next year. Additionally, since travelers have had plenty of time to plan — many people held international trips for 2022 just to be on the safe side with wavering travel entry requirements — they have booked early and also used vouchers from previously cancelled bookings.
- COST: As people travel more and more, booking early for travel will be key to get a better price, as when space is limited prices go up.
- OVERALL OUTLOOK: 2022 will be a very positive year for travel. We are seeing some of the expected destinations coming back fast (Switzerland, Italy, and National Parks), and we are also seeing continue trends in Scotland, Ireland, and Alaska by Rail.
I’m happy to provide more info or arrange an interview with Frank for more specifics.
Thanks for your time.
